Overview

I created a look book for the Pratt Fashion Department that served as a curated visual narrative of the graduating students' collections. The goal was to design a piece that felt elevated yet accessible–something that honoured the individuality of each designer while maintaining a cohesive voice throughout. I approached the layout with a strong emphasis on clarity, rhythm and visual storytelling, ensuring that the garments were the central focus. Through thoughtful image placement, minimal embellishments, and structured typography, the look book became a refined yet dynamic showcase of emerging fashion talent.

Typeface

To strike a balance between elegance and readability, I selected Playfair Display and Lato as the primary typefaces.

Playfair Display brought a sense of sophistication and editorial charm to the headers, echoing the high-fashion tone of the collections, while Lato grounded the design with its clean, contemporary sans-serif structure. The contrast between the two fonts allowed for visual hierarchy and flow–Playfair added personality and flair, whereas Lato provided a neutral foundation for body text and captions. Together, they complemented the diversity of the designers’ styles while maintaining consistency across the layout.

Challenges

One of the main challenges was designing for a wide range of aesthetics–each student’s collection had a unique visual language, and it was important to create a layout system that could flex without losing cohesion. Balancing image density with white space was another careful consideration, especially when working with varied image formats and qualities. Additionally, ensuring that the typography enhanced rather than overpowered the visuals required constant refinement. Through rounds of experimentation and feedback, I was able to land on a structure that respected both the individuality of the designers and the overall harmony of the book.
